Chef Ellis or more commonly “Chef Ed” is the former Chef Instructor at the Southern Indiana Career & Technical Center in Evansville, Indiana, a position he held for 24 years.
Chef Ed has more than 40 years of industry experience that includes stints as an Executive Chef with Private Clubs, Hotels and Healthcare. Chef Ed’s classical training combined with his experiences in varied cuisines and production techniques allow him to excel in his current position as instructor at Southern Indiana Career & Technical Center.
The program at Southern Indiana Career & Technical Center provides students with advanced preparation for post-secondary culinary education and industry positions after high school. Chef Ed oversees a two year training and production program for 40 students as they prepare meals for a self-sustaining public restaurant located within the school. The students learn basic culinary and baking techniques as well as earn college credits and industry certifications.
Chef Ed has a long history of teaching and mentoring to the community and also young chefs. Chef Ed developed, taught and advises the associate degree culinary and baking programs at the local community college. Chef Ed is also an adviser at the National Center for Hospitality Services at Sullivan University. Throughout his career he has involved himself in giving back to the profession through involvement with the American Culinary Federation as a member since 1983. Chef Ed is also a member of the Les Amis d Escoffier Society, a Silver Medalist in ACF Category F5 Mystery Basket, ACF Tri-State Chefs and Cooks chapter Chef of the Year and ACF Educator of the Year.
When not teaching, Chef Ed is always pursuing opportunities that add to his skills, both in and out of the kitchen. He has also worked as a Plumber/Pipefitter, HVAC Technician, and Electrical Technician in the construction trades as well as an Automobile Technician.
Chef Ed is married to his wife Vivian for 37 years and has three children, Candice (40), Jessica (36) and Edward (22)
